The year-end work bee in the Naturalization area on June 10, 2016 was a huge success! We had many volunteers working up to and on the day of the work bee. The CBE grounds department donated equipment and labor to help achieve our goals.
The main issues that were corrected at the work bee include the loose gravel covering the grass that made it difficult for the caretaker to mow, the loose footprint paving stones that were a tripping hazard, and the rotten logs that housed wasps in the spring and summer. We addressed these issues by removing the gravel and replacing it with the recommended limestone fines, removing the loose footprints and replaced the old logs with new logs. We also replaced the base of the logs with limestone fines to slow rotting.
Mrs. Reschke asked that her class be involved, and we decided to plant a few shrubs and seeds as a class project to get the kids invested in the area.
The total cost of the project was $361.95. Funds were provided by the Fundraising Society.
Donations provided for the project were estimated at $4,357!
Thank you to all our great volunteers for helping out and for the fundraising efforts that make these projects possible!
