January 2017 Rosemont School Council Minutes

Posted below are the minutes from the Rosemont School Council (RSC) Meeting held on January 18, 2017.

The next School Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 15. We encourage parents to attend this meeting since there will be a review of programming offered at the school (eg. residencies, other "extras").

January 2017 Rosemont Fundraising Society Minutes

Posted below are the Minutes and Treasurer’s Report from the Rosemont Fundraising Society (RFS) meeting held on January 18, 2017.

Here are some of the highlights from the meeting:

Halloween party was under budget.
Money budgeted for the S.T.E.M. residency (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) has been re-allocated to focus on math resources for the school.
Money budgeted for Physical Education support is lower than expected and the balance has been shifted to Science support.
Jill Carlsen will be the Spolumbo's Fundraiser Coordinator this year. Please contact Jill if you would like to help out with the fundraiser.
Dan Collins plans to have a meeting next week with a group parents who are interested in looking at what the next steps will be for the playground. If there are other parents who are interested, they are welcome to attend.

The next Fundraising Society meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 15. We ask that parents attend this meeting to discuss ideas of how the fundraising money should be allocated for the next school year (2017/2018).

After careful review and thoughtful consideration, the CBE is proposing the following Plan for Use of Learning Space in Areas I & II.

The open houses and this online survey will be the last opportunity for you to share any thoughts or perspectives on the plans prior to final decisions being communicated by March 2017.

Parent Council and Fundraising Society Meeting - Wednesday, January 18

All parents are welcome to attend the Parent Council and Fundraising Society meeting on Wednesday, January 18. The meetings are held in the Rosemont School library and start at 6:30 pm. The agendas for both meetings are listed below.

Parent Council Agenda

Purpose:

School Councils provide a means for parents and community to work together with administration, staff and students, to promote the well-being and overall effectiveness of the school community. Its main role is advisory.

Goals

To help build a sense of community within Rosemont School.
To develop and promote our school’s presence within the larger community.
To promote parent involvement at Rosemont School.
To enhance the educational experiences of students at Rosemont School.
To develop a school financial plan to support chosen initiatives.

Vacant School Council board positions
Key Communicator
The Key Communicator will:

Serve as a liaison between School Council and the CBE
Build and enhances a connection between parents/school communities and the system, as well as helping to ensure that parents are kept informed of opportunities and resources available to them
Attend Key Communicator meetings and workshops as necessary - Contributes to school newsletter as required

Approximate time commitment – 2 hours per month

Newsletter Coordinator
The Newsletter Coordinator will:

Coordinate and compile Council and Community updates for monthly newsletter
Work closely with Principal and Chair to Coordinate School Publicity requirements

Approximate time commitment – 1 hour per month

Fundraising Society Agenda

Goal of Society:

To generate funds to create an optimal learning environment for our 21^st century learners. This includes facilitating information literacy and generating global awareness among all students, allowing students to represent understanding in multiple forms, and ensuring that students learn to become critical thinkers. Funds raised through the society will be used to purchase books, equipment, update technology, hire guest instructors/artists in residence, fund field trips, etc.
