A fascinating look into the math crisis myth and the impact of global standardized testing regimes on teaching and learning in Calgary's classrooms.
Panelists include Dr. David Rutkowski (Professor of Educational Measurement at the Center for Educational Measurement at the University of Oslo, Norway), Dr. Ronna Mosher (Acting Superintendent of Learning, Calgary Board of Education), and Dr. Lynn McGarvey (Vice-Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Alberta).
Moderated by Andrew Phung, an actor, improviser, and emcee from Calgary, Alberta. He fell in love with improvisational comedy and joined the Loose Moose Theatre at the age of 16, and is currently a Senior Ensemble Performer and Instructor. Known for his energy and positive attitude, he's a crowd favourite who makes audiences smile and laugh out loud. Andrew is currently one of the stars of the CBC television series Kim's Convenience and took home back to back Canadian Screen Awards in the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy (2017 and 2018).
5:00pm-6:00pm Math Practices Fair: Parents, children, and all members of the public are welcome to try out some of the exciting and engaging mathematics teaching & learning practices on display by actual classroom teachers.
6:00pm-7:30pm Speaker Panel: All members of the public are invited to this hard-hitting examination of the math crisis myth and the impacts of global standardized testing.
